    Himalayan Balsam Bashing

    Nature Conservation Volunteers

This opportunity takes place between 25 Jul 2025 and 25 Jul 2025

Balsam Bashing – pulling up the shallow-rooted balsam plants. Himalayan Balsam is an invasive plant that grows rapidly in tall, dense colonies along the brooks and rivers. Balsam has large leaves that block sunlight, causing native plants to die. With reduced biodiversity, the brook supports less wildlife, endangering creatures like the water vole. Its also also really satisfying to pull, so why not come along, relax... and destroy a population of invasive plants.

    Independent Custody Visitor

Office of the Police and Crime Commssioner

This opportunity takes place between 17 Jul 2025 and 31 Jul 2026

Independent Custody Visitors (ICVs) are members of the community who visit police custody suites in pairs to ensure the welfare of people who are being held after arrest.Their role is to check on the conditions in which they are being held and make sure their rights are being observed.

The Warwickshire scheme covers the custody suites in Nuneaton and Leamington. Each location has their own panel, led by a nominated Chair, who provides support to all ICVs in their team.

Visits are made weekly, at unannounced and random times. All visits are conducted in pairs, with volunteer pairs escorted by a member of custody staff to ensure their wellbeing. ICVs are expected to provide an impartial view of the welfare of detainee, checking that their rights and entitlements have been offered to them.

During a visit, you will speak with detainees about their time in custody, maintaining the strictest application of confidentiality, and you will complete a report reflecting on your findings. Copies of these reports are reviewed by the OPCC and can be used to hold Warwickshire Police to account and ensure actions or areas of concern are followed up.

    Kenilworth Listening Exchanges

This opportunity takes place between 07 Jul 2025 and 31 Jul 2026

Facilitating small group Listening Exchanges - usually in Kenilworth and on UoW campus from time to time

We are looking for community minded students to help us run these short events. We train you - the training is short and very simple. We can provide bus fares to & from Kenilworth.

Our Listening Exchanges are run with a facilitator and a co-facilitator. The facilitators explain the process and help the participants to stick to the guidlines. There are usually 6 to 8 people in a group and the sessions last for about an hour.

For each session we have a suggested topic. However, people are free to talk about whatever is on their minds.

The main skills you will develop are facilitation and listening in a community context.

In the Listening Exchanges, sometimes called Listening Circles, we strive to create a safe space where people can share their thoughts and where they are valued and respected. We all try to listen to each other without thinking of a response (which is usual in conversation). We try to understand each other better, even if we don’t agree, to build stronger community.

    Warwick Award points are available.

    Scouting Leader

    Scouts

This opportunity takes place between 09 Jul 2025 and 31 Jul 2026

Scout leaders help children and young people take part in a wide range of activities. Please note that volunteering with Scouts is offered as an external opportunity: Warwick Volunteers has no direct contact with Scouts and cannot support individual queries.

You don’t need to be Bear Grylls to join us. You don’t need to have been a Scout when you were younger. You don’t even need to know how to put up a tent. Our door is open to people of all ages, genders, races and backgrounds, and we’re only able to change lives because people like you lend a hand. We’re talking about tea makers, tidy-uppers and skill sharers. We’re talking about mini bus drivers and first aiders. We’re talking about students who want to boost their CV, and parents who volunteer so they can spend more time together as a family.

Whatever your skillset, lend a hand for as little or as much time as you can spare, and we promise you’ll get more out than you put in. Because whether you’re helping a leader to run an activity in the local town hall, organising a night away, or buttering 120 slices of bread a group of very hungry eleven year olds - no two Scout meetings are the same. The difference you make, though, is always great.

We provide the training. You show up, get stuck in, and make memories for life.

As long as you're over 18, you can help out as an adult volunteer in Scouting.
